BET HIP HOP AWARDS 2006

Welcome back to the Spinzone. Has it been a whole week since I last talked to you? Time sure does fly when you're having fun and even if you're not having fun it still flies, even though it may not seem like it to you! The BET Network's Hip Hop Awards is airing November 15, 2006 at 9PM ET and it will be interesting to see who will receive the awards this year. This year the awards show took place in the ATL (for those of you who don't know that is Atlanta, GA) and those that received the big awards probably are artists from that city.

T.I. won Hip Hop Video Of The Year for "What You Know" and the Hip Hop MVP Award. Can't be mad at T.I. because he did make a lot of noise this year and I have to say that man has put in the work and deserves it just as much as anyone else. Grand Hustle is alive and well in the ATL.

Jermaine Dupri won the Element Award: Producer Of The Year. No surprise there. Who has made more hits this year than J.D.? It seems like he has blessed so many artists this year with tracks that do nothing but sell and bang in the clubs. I don't understand why he can't do it for his girl Janet? He was recognized for the work he did for L.L. Cool J ft J-Lo for the song "Control Myself", Bow Wow ft Mike Jones-"Fresh Azimiz" (Remix) & Chingy ft Tyrese-"Pullin' Me Back". Since back in the day when he produced the song for the group, "Sylk Tymes Leather" way back in the day right up to his work with Chingy, Nelly, Dem Franchize Boyz, Monica, Mariah and all of the rest. This guy has a hell of a track record that cannot be denied. He makes nothing but hits. Want to see how he works his magic? Check the video below!

Common was recognized as the Lyricist Of The Year and I cannot be mad at that one. Common is most definitely one of the better lyricists on the scene and he has paid his dues in the game. I still shiver when I hear his song, "I Used To Love Her".

Grandmaster Flash was recognized as the "I Am Hip Hop" Icon Award winner. Definitely a good choice. Flash cannot be denied. He is definitely one of the pioneers in the game and will always be recognized as one of the greatest hip hop DJ's of all time. Check Flash doing his thing below!

I have to send condolences to the families of two people who passed away last week. A local DJ in my city, Darryl K. passed away last week. He was huge on the DJ scene in my city (Grand Rapids, Michigan) on radio and in the clubs and will definitely be missed. Gerald Levert passed away on Friday, November 10. His music will live on forever and I have his family in my prayers.
